Give before you ask

Give before you askI am a rather casual user of LinkedIn. I am basically using it as my professional rolodex, without investing too much effort on its special features.

In the past I have received a couple of requests to write a recommendation for a person that either have or haven’t worked with.

I’ve never written a single one recommendation. For various reasons.

Last week a Dutch guy that I am connected with in various online services, Gianluigi, post a recommendation for me in LinkedIn. A rather low profile recommendation, not the kind of “… what a brilliant guy Panos is, you should hire him immediately ” stuff.

He wrote his opinion based on the limited contact we have.

“Panos has a good understanding of where the market is heading towards in Marketing Strategic terms, asks the right questions to find out what’s needed.”

But the important thing is that he wrote it without me asking him to do it. He did the first step.

And of course Gianluigi is now the happy owner of my first LinkedIn recommendation :-)
